Challenge
The product needed real multi-tenancy: users belonging to organizations, admin invitations, role boundaries, and a path to billing — without bolting tenancy on after features shipped.
Approach
We modeled organization scope at the session and API layer, kept tenant data isolation explicit in the data model, and designed auth flows (signup, invitation, active organization) as product surfaces rather than afterthought middleware.
Outcomes
- Clear organization membership and role model in production
- Session-scoped active organization for API and UI
- Billing/subscription-ready product boundaries without a rewrite
Stack and systems
- TypeScript full-stack monorepo
- Organization-scoped GraphQL API and web clients
- Auth sessions with organization context
